Lawn Care and Spray Services

Prefer to do your own gardening and maintenance but need a little help with your lawn’s weed control and fertility? We can handle that. As licensed commercial applicators in Tennessee and Mississippi, we can provide you with a lawn care program for your residence or business that will make you the envy of the neighborhood.

Did you know:

  • A single grass plant can have 387 miles of roots!
  • Turf grass helps purify water entering underground aquifers because its root mass and soil microbes act as a filter to capture and breakdown pollutants.
  • Grass is estimated to trap some 12 million tons of dust and dirt from the air annually.
  • Grass is such an efficient carbon dioxide/oxygen converter that an area just 50 feet by 50 feet generates enough oxygen to meet the needs of a family of four.
  • Grass traps and holds rainfall better than most surfaces, thereby reducing water loss by runoff and enhancing the potential for groundwater recharge.
  • Researchers have calculated that the front lawns of just eight average houses provide the cooling effect of about 70 tons of air conditioning due to grass’s own self-powered evapo-transpiration system.

Our 7 step approach

Recommended

  • Soil Test and Analysis: Your lawn will only be as good as the soil it is growing in. We recommend starting with a test to measure soil chemistry, noting certain variables such as PH, macronutrient availability, and organic material content. The results of this test will allow us to determine the makeup of your fertility program and whether soil amendments are necessary.

  • PH adjustment: Based on the soil test results, a lime or sulfur application may be recommended to bring your soil to the proper acidity/alkalinity balance and allow the uptake of the nutrients provided in your fertility program.

Standard Program

  • Round 1: Late winter pre and post-emergent herbicide: Applied in February and March to eliminate germinating winter annual weeds and begin the process of preventing those summer weeds that are soon to germinate.

  • Round 2: Early spring pre and post-emergent herbicide and fertilization: Applied in April, this round is designed to catch weeds that may have made it through round one and to provide an extra punch of pre-emergent to extend the coverage window. We also begin your turf’s fertility program during green up with a moderate release fertilizer.

  • Round 3: Early summer fertilization and post-emergent**: In June, we come back with a slower release fertilizer. This picks up where the first round left off and continues the lush appearance of your yard. The idea here is to protect the carbohydrate stores of the plant and discourage an unhealthy high- maintenance flush of growth. We will also treat any weeds that made it through our first two rounds.

  • Round 4: Mid-summer fertilization and post-emergent**: Late July and August is a good time to give the yard another healthy dose of nutrients to help sustain it into early fall. Once again, our slow release approach protects your lawn from burn during these dog days of summer.

  • Round 5:  Late summer/early fall pre-emerge and fertilization:  It’s time to start thinking about next year.  We protect the overwintering lawn with a lower rate of nitrogen for carbohydrate storage and provide root enhancing potassium to the plants.  Now is also the time to apply a pre-emergent to prevent the germination of winter annual weeds such as henbit and poa annua.

**It is important to note that some perennial weeds like Dallisgrass, Nutsedge and Virginia Creeper are considered noxious and difficult to treat.  Specialty herbicides and repeat applications may be recommended for control and would fall outside of our standard program.
